"You keep Him in Perfect Peace Whose mind is stayed on you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."
~Isaiah 26:3-4
Stress tries to take us captive every day, and sadly, it often wins the battle. The world is scary. Political unrest, financial instability and insecurity, a global climate that thrives fear, and on and on. However, as Christians, we have hope. God has given us the recipe and it is to lay our burdens at his feet and rely fully on him. We are not tossed about because we are firmly rooted in Him.

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
~Proverbs 27:17
Surround yourself with friends who enrich your life: those who tell you the truth with love and grace, who encourage you, support you, and believe in you, who bring you joy, and who love you no matter what.
And while you are surrounding yourself with those friends, remember to be the same for them.

"The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord."
Lamentations 3:25-2
The world is filled with noise. Satan throws everything he can at us to keep us distracted because he knows that when we slow down, get quiet, and seek the Lord, we will find him. When we find him, he will draw us to him and show us the way we should go. He will adjust our perspective and bring peace to our weary souls.
I encourage you to find time to sit quietly with God each day. You don't have to have the perfect words. God just wants your fellowship, and you, in turn, will find His fellowship very sweet.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
Psalm 56:3
This is one of the first scriptures I memorized. I remember being a student in our 5-year-old Sunday School class. As a common practice, my teacher (who also happened to be my mom) had the verse written on paper and placed as a book mark in the class Bible. The other kids and I took turns pointing to a "book mark" and Momma would read the verse aloud, or if able, the student read it. I remember when I pulled this verse and read it to my classmates. It was a powerful core memory for me.
We came back to this verse many times, but that day, as a 5 year old child, I realized the significance of what it said. Trust God and don't be afraid. God will make it right. I need not fear because God is for me. Now, decades later, this scripture still comforts me. Thanks, Mom!

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
Psalm 143:10
Knowing we are doing God's will is not the mystery we sometimes make it out to be. Of course we all want to know that we are making the right choices when it comes to major life plans, but what about on the daily? How do we know? Ask him. Ask him to guide your steps. Make sure your actions are aligned with his word and he will not lead you astray. Psalm 37:4 tells each of us, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." That doesn't mean God grants wishes. IWhat it assures us is that when we meditate on him, he aligns our desires with his. When we earnestly seek him and pray for his wisdom and guidance, he will make our paths straight.

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven."
Matthew 5:16
I am currently in Nashville, where today has been declared "Dolly Parton Day." I thought today would be a perfect day to remember her. Dolly was an entertainer in the biggest way but was never shy about about her faith in God. Instead, she used her platform to make the world a better place. She felt it was her God-given calling to do so. Dolly was a superstar, not just because of the high level of celebrity she achieved, but because she was a fire who burned to cast light upon others. We could use a lot more Dolly in this world!
So today, and everyday, be kind. Be gracious. Love others. And let your light shine.
Do your part to fill the space sweet Dolly left behind.

"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Do you ever feel like you are scaling a mountain in life? Every step up is a struggle and one slip of the hand or foot could bring peril? We all experience that vulnerability at times. Remember that no matter how tall the mountain, Jesus is at the summit with his hand outstretched to pull you up. Keep your eyes on Him. Don't look around at the scary circumstances that leave you feeling small and threatened. Fear and discouragement can be overwhelming, but they are not bigger or stronger than Jesus. Circumstances might seem bleak, but they will not take you down. Jesus is stronger. Bigger. TRUST HIM.

Matthew 6:25-34
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love."
John 15:9
The love the Father has for his son is greater than we can fathom in our humanness. Jesus tells us that he loves us the same way. He loves us with an indescribable, undeserved, all-encompassing love that we can never repay. Our best response to that love is to fall in love with him. And really, when we know him and his character, his grace, his faithfulness, his goodness...all that he is, how can we not?!
I stand in awe of our beautiful savior who loves each of us personally, wholly, and unconditionally. Jesus, I love you!
"Behold what manner of love the father has bestowed upon us that we should be called children of God."
1 John 3:1

"And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this."
Esther 4:14
Many years ago, I saw the phrase, "Bloom Where You are Planted." I'm sure many of you have seen it as well. That saying, along with this verse of scripture, remind me that no matter where I find myself, God wants to use me. He placed me on this planet at this time on purpose, and on purpose I will seek to glorify him in word and deed.
The book of Esther tells the story of an unlikely heroine who risked her life to save the Jewish people from genocide. Against all odds, God placed her where he did, when he did, to carry out his plan to protect his people. I encourage you to visit this book of the Bible to read this fascinating true story.
